While you were biting your nails or bawling your eyes out during the first two episodes of The Last of Us this season, you might’ve missed a brief, sneaky cameo by Jennifer Aniston.
The Friends star doesn’t quite appear in the flesh (or make any musical contributions like the original Ellie actress, Ashley Johnson), but she does make a quick appearance as Ellie (Bella Ramsey) is searching for the infected in season 2, episode 1. After she falls through the ceiling of an abandoned store, Ellie rummages through her surroundings and finds an old issue of People magazine with Aniston on the cover. “BEST & WORST DRESSED” the cover line reads. Ellie flips through the pages before sensing that an infected might be in her midst.
In The Last of Us’s dystopian future setting, the 2000s tabloid is a true relic—not only of the past, but of a simpler time before the Cordyceps virus took over the world, when people could fixate on celebrities and red carpet fashion instead of surviving a zombie attack. Aniston joked about the magazine’s quick appearance after it caught her eye.
She posted a clip on her Instagram Story and wrote in the caption, “Of all things to survive the apocalypse 🤣.” She tagged the show’s official account and added, “👀.”
Before you start assuming whether this has anything to do with Aniston and Pedro Pascal’s rumored date last month, think again. A source told People that and the Last of Us star only simply enjoyed a “business dinner” and she “would love to work with him.”
As for Sunday night’s tragic twist, Aniston has not shared any reactions (yet). Maybe she’s still recovering like the rest of us.
