AEW FILES NEW TRADEMARK AS BUZZ BUILDS OVER POTENTIALLY NEW TV DEAL

AEW President Tony Khan sparked buzz Friday night when he told fans in Chicago during the Collision and Rampage taping, “AEW on TBS and TNT, I think, is here to stay.” Many see this as a hint that AEW is close to announcing a new TV deal with Warner Bros. Discovery.

That same day, AEW filed a new trademark for “AEW: SHOCKWAVE,” which could be linked to the upcoming announcement. Per the filing made with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, “AEW: SHOCKWAVE” pertains to:

Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests; Entertainment services in the nature of live professional wrestling performances; Entertainment services in the nature of production of professional wrestling programs and events; Entertainment services, namely, production and distribution of ongoing television programs in the field of professional wrestling

As excitement builds for AEW’s announcement on a new media rights deal, their latest trademark filing could mean a few things. It might be for a new pay-per-view, TV show, or something tied to a possible streaming deal with Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max service. It could even hint at a new match type. Last month, AEW filed a trademark for “Meat Mayhem,” which many thought was connected to Khan’s plan for a “Meat Madness” match at Revolution.

AEW’s latest filing comes at an exciting time for the young promotion. Before All Out, which drew nearly 50,000 fans to London’s Wembley Stadium, Tony Khan promised several important announcements were on the way. He soon revealed that next year’s All Out will be held at Globe Life Field in Texas. Shortly after, he announced that in 2025, Grand Slam will take place in Australia, and Forbidden Door will head to London.

As the company’s diehard fans, wrestlers, and staff await the good word on its TV future, it will be interesting to see how “AEW: SHOCKWAVE” might electrify audiences.
