ACTION MOVIE THE KILLERS GAME WITH DAVE BAUTISTA BOMBS AT THE BOX OFFICE

Even with Knock at the Cabin and Guardians of the Galaxy's Dave Bautista fronting it, action outing The Killer's Game has unceremoniously bombed at the box office. Bautista is typically part of an ensemble in his movies, and The Killer's Game was never going to hold a candle to a Guardians of the Galaxy or Dune flick, which could be part of the reason why the movie has floundered. One would also be hard-pressed to name any advertising they'd seen for it prior to the week of its release.

Even with Bautista, Rebel Moon's Sofia Boutella, fellow Guardians of the Galaxy vet Pom Klementieff, Deadpool 2's Terry Crews, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' Ben Kingsley, and superstar Ice Cube, The Killer's Game was undoubtedly the big loser of an already slow weekend at the box office. It opened in sixth place with $2.6 million at 2,623 theaters. First place went to legacy sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice ($51.6 million, a very solid drop of just 53.5%) while the number two spot went to fellow newcomer Speak No Evil, with the Blumhouse movie debuting at 3,375 theaters and scoring a respectable $11.5 million.

Sadly, this marks a record low for Dave Bautista at the box office. The previous "record" was held by niche crime movie Hotel Artemis, with $3.2 million and a final domestic tally of $6.7 million (via Box Office Mojo). In other words, expect The Killer's Game to arrive on streaming sooner rather than later. And, let's face it, it's the type of movie that is likely to do far better with audiences on the small screen, anyway. Perhaps his forthcoming buddy cop movie with Jason Momoa will be a better example of his star power.

The Killers Game Promises No-Nonsense Action Excitement

Directed by J. J. Perry and written by Rand Ravich and James Coyne, the action comedy The Killer's Game promises no-nonsense action movie excitement and follows Bautista's hitman, Joe Flood, who orders a hit on himself after being told by a doctor he's suffering from a terminal illness. But, in an unfortunate twist, he was misdiagnosed, and the hit can't be called off. Now, Flood has to work his way through a bunch of highly-trained colleagues out to score a major payday.

Now that The Killer's Game has hit theaters, what else is on Bautista's docket? The well-reviewed, Pamela Anderson-led drama The Last Showgirl from Gia Coppola just had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and could possibly be an Oscar contender should it be released by the end of the year. There's also Trap House, which features Bautista as a DEA agent in pursuit of his own child, who has been participating in robbing cartels. He'll also play the lead role in the post-apocalyptic sci-fi outing Afterburn which sees the actor join forces with his Marvel co-star Samuel L. Jackson. In short, Bautista has plenty of chances to score a hit.
