DEADPOOL TRILOGY STAR JOINS DAVE BAUTISTA & JASON MOMOA'S ACTION COMEDY

The upcoming action movie The Wrecking Crew just added another familiar face, this time from Deadpool's universe.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Morena Baccarin has been cast as the girlfriend of Jason Momoa's character, a "loose cannon cop" who must team up with his Navy SEAL half-brother (played by Dave Bautista) to solve a family murder together. The film is expected to begin production sometime next month in New Zealand, though an official release date hasn't been announced yet.

Liev Schreiber was surprised to learn the campaign for his Deadpool & Wolverine cameo had such a huge following.

Baccarin is the latest addition to The Wrecking Crew's cast, which recently brought in Spider-Man: No Way Home's Jacob Batalon to play a "foul-mouthed private investigator" connected to the murder victim, as well as The Book of Boba Fett's Temuera Morrison as the governor of Hawaii. Other confirmed cast members include Stephen Root, Frankie Adams, and Miyavi, while Blue Beetle's Ángel Manuel Soto -- who will also executive produce an upcoming animated Blue Beetle series -- is scheduled to direct the project.

Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa Reunite for a Third Collaboration

The film marks Bautista and Momoa's third major collaboration, having previously acted opposite one another on Apple TV+'s See and Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part One. On how their cop film came together, Momoa recalled in 2021 how, after Bautista tweeted the pitch, he "literally texted me four days ago, going, 'We need to do a buddy cop film. We love each other. We are on See and Dune together.' And I said, 'Absolutely.' And he said, 'Let's do it in Hawaii.' And I said, 'Let's do it. I have an idea.' So it's off to the races now. We're doing it."

Like Momoa and Bautista, Baccarin has starred in various superhero properties, playing Black Canary in Justice League Unlimited, Leslie Thompkins on Gotham, and Vanessa Carlysle in Deadpool and its sequels, including the recent Deadpool & Wolverine. Since its release, Deadpool & Wolverine has proven a monumental financial success for Marvel Studios, surpassing Joker, Oppenheimer, and its Deadpool predecessors to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, as well as 2024's second highest-grossing film behind Inside Out 2. Despite teasing the next chapter of his life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however, Ryan Reynolds has played coy about where Deadpool's story will go next, responding to a possible Avengers membership future with, "I don't know. Yeah, we'll see. Yeah."

Other upcoming movies starring Baccarin include the post-apocalyptic film Elevation and the drama Millers in Marriage. Bautista, meanwhile, will appear in the new action-comedy The Killer's Game, while Momoa will star in A Minecraft Movie, whose first trailer dropped earlier today.
