Companion, a film about a robot named Iris (Sophie Thatcher) whose boyfriend/owner Josh (Jack Quaid) tries to deactivate her after a weekend gone wrong, has been hailed as one of the year's best movies so far. The film has a great score on Rotten Tomatoes, described as an an excellent film with fantastic depth.
In little under three weeks since it released, the film has made nearly triple its budget at the box office - with that sort of success, it’s no wonder director/writer Drew Hancock’s is already soft-planning sequels. For those who haven’t had the chance to see Companion in the theater, the film now has a release date on Digital as well as its physical media release. Per Screen Rant, it will make its Digital debut on Tuesday, Feb. 18. The 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD release will follow on April 1.
Antony Starr's performance as Homelander in The Boys gets the actor a prestigious award.
Despite what some may think, an early digital release is not a bad thing for a movie made on a relatively smaller budget. There are other factors at play besides the fact that streamlining movies is more the norm after the pandemic era. Given how early digital purchase is usually a much steeper price than a theater ticket, this may continue to add to Companion’s profits.
That and the fact that with Marvel making their first big drop of the year, as well as other films releasing, Companion would be playing against much more popular and far more established brands. That doesn’t mean there isn’t faith in the film.
The actor admits to wanting a stunt double to tackle the troubling scene.
The early critics and audience scores speak for themselves, as well as the strong media campaign post the film's release, which has given filmgoers dozens of interviews behind the scenes with the stars of the film, as well as many viral clips, such as Quaid and Thatcher joking about.
The film's synopsis reads, "A weekend getaway turns bloody and violent when a subservient android that's built for human companionship goes haywire."
For those who enjoyed Companion, this is absolutely great news as they soon will be able to enjoy it in the company of their own home. Companion is still currently in theaters, and will release digitally on the 18th of February.
