‘THE SIMS' MOVIE FROM ‘LOKI' DIRECTOR KATE HERRON LANDS AT AMAZON MGM

A movie based on the video game franchise The Sims is closer to coming to life.

Amazon MGM Studios announced Tuesday that a film is in development based on the long-running Electronic Arts gaming series. Kate Herron, known for directing the Disney+ series Loki, will helm the feature from a script that she is co-writing with Briony Redman.

LuckyChap and Vertigo Entertainment are producing the project with Electronic Arts' The Sims team. Herron and Redman will serve as executive producers.

The Hollywood Reporter reported in May that the Sims film was in the works. Part of the larger Sim series that launched with SimCity in 1989, the first The Sims game was released in 2000 and allows users to create virtual people, establish their homes and help direct their goals.

The Sims movie is the latest collaboration between LuckyChap and Amazon MGM Studios following My Old Ass, which stars Aubrey Plaza and was released Friday after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival. The two companies were also behind last year's Saltburn. Additionally, LuckyChap enjoyed massive success with Warner Bros.' Margot Robbie starrer Barbie, which was the highest-grossing film of 2023 and landed eight Oscar nominations.

Herron served as executive producer and directed the entire first season for the Marvel Studios series Loki. The Tom Hiddleston-led show debuted in 2021 and is Marvel's most-watched Disney+ program.

The director also worked on Sex Education and the forthcoming second season of HBO's The Last of Us. Herron and Redman co-wrote an episode for the latest season of Doctor Who.

Herron is represented by Casarotto Ramsay & Associates, CAA, Shelter PR and Jackoway Austen. Redman is repped by Casarotto Ramsay & Associates, CAA and Jackoway Austen.
