The Opalite music video from Taylor Swift has generated extensive online discussion. Now, Elmo from Sesame Street delivered a surprising response to the video. The beloved red muppet took to X to jokingly call out Swift over the video’s rock cameo, reviving memories of his long-running comedic feud with Zoe’s pet rock, Rocco.

All about Taylor Swift's “Opalite” music video

In the music video, Swift plays a lonely woman whose closest companion is a rock until she meets a man, who has his own quirky cactus companion, who is played by Domhnall Gleeson.

Swift has said she developed some video concepts during a chat-show appearance, which she combined with a playful cast and retro aesthetic to create a package that combined authentic elements with humorous components. The result is a dreamy, unconventional narrative that fits her evolving storytelling approach while keeping fans guessing about hidden references and symbolic imagery.

Elmo's response became the main focus of attention because of its perfect comedic timing. Elmo commented on the rock's appearance by saying,

"Ms. Taylor Swift… you have got to be kidding Elmo," which showed his disbelief about the rock because he used the word rock to refer to his previous complaints on Sesame Street.

The first clip, which showed Elmo becoming frustrated with Zoe's pet rock Rocco, started an internet trend because it became popular across various cultures. Elmo insists Rocco is "just a rock" in this scene, which creates one of the internet's most beloved puppet breakdowns and establishes Rocco's anger as a frequent internet meme.

Elmo's post was not meant to criticize him because it showed respect for the established comic tradition. The internet added new entertainment value to Swift's already popular release through its demonstration that modern pop culture includes characters from children's TV shows. The combination of Swift's creative storytelling approach and Elmo's nostalgic comedic style creates a media framework that enables fans from different time periods to connect with each other through their shared interests.

In all, Opalite has developed into something beyond its function as a music video release. The visual media piece uses its strange storytelling, famous guest appearances, and its new internet-approved puppet scene to demonstrate Swift's power to create discussions that extend beyond her music to revive a battle between puppets that has existed for many years.
