A blind date changed Jessie Buckley's life.

The actress met her husband Freddie — a mental healthcare worker — through the setup, and they wed in 2023. Two years later, they welcomed their first child, a daughter.

Speaking with British Vogue in January 2026, Buckley shared that Freddie remains largely anonymous because of his work. However, she described him as "extraordinary" and said he’s been “having a ball eating canapés” behind the scenes at her promotional events for Hamnet.

In the 2025 film adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s novel, Buckley portrays Agnes Shakespeare, the wife of William Shakespeare. Her performance earned her a Critics Choice Award, a Golden Globe and an Actor Award, as well as an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.

So, who is Jessie Buckley's husband? Here's everything to know about Freddie and his relationship with the actress.

He's from England

During an appearance on the Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware podcast in January 2024, Buckley shared that Freddie is from Islington, England, and works in the mental health field.

"He’s gorgeous,” she added.

Buckley and Freddie met on a blind date

Buckley first mentioned being in a relationship with Freddie during a March 2021 interview with The Guardian, but only referred to him as her “fella.”

In January 2026, she revealed to British Vogue that the pair met when they were set up on a blind date by a mutual friend, music executive Marc Robinson.

The outing took place in Hackney, a borough in London, and involved a stroll along Regent’s Canal, followed by drinks at The Dove on Broadway Market.

Freddie enjoys cooking for Buckley

Buckley and Freddie split their time between a London apartment and a centuries-old home in the English countryside.

Speaking on the Table Manners podcast, the Hamnet star recalled how the couple ended up in the historic property, which dates back to the 1500s.

“Friends of ours ... bought this old place for like nothing at an auction, pulled the weeds out of it, and just did the whole thing up. And then they showed us the house that we live in, which is like 1500s and falling down and orange ... it’s a really amazing old house that’s been there forever," she shared.

When they’re not working, the pair enjoy cooking together — though Buckley says her husband is the real expert in the kitchen.

“One of my favorite ever dishes is anchovy pasta ... Freddie makes it," she added. "I’m rubbish at making it ... it’s from a New York Times recipe, but it’s just capers, chillies, about a pint of oil, great parsley and garlic.”

Buckley and Freddie married in 2023

The couple planned their wedding in seven weeks, tying the knot at their countryside home in 2023. The celebration, attended by just 40 guests, was catered by Towpath, a café in London that they frequented when they first started dating.

“One of my favorite memories of the day was ... I wanted a keg of Guinness, and I definitely wanted their cheese toasties at a certain hour," Buckley recalled on Table Manners.

The 2023 SAG strike gave the newlyweds extra time to travel, allowing them to take several trips together after their wedding instead of just one honeymoon.

“We actually just kind of bottled into friend’s holidays. Loads of friends were going away, and they just rented a place ... it was really nice,” Buckley said. “Usually I’m away shooting or something, and because of the strike, everything got moved, so I’ve had a whole year just to, like, hang out.”

They welcomed a daughter in 2025

Buckley and Freddie began their parenthood journey in 2025 with the arrival of their daughter.

The actress first revealed she was expecting in April 2025 when she appeared at CinemaCon in an all-black ensemble that showed off her baby bump. She later confirmed the birth of her daughter in October 2025 during an appearance on The New York Times’ Modern Love podcast.

“It’s intense, but I just love it,” Buckley said of motherhood. “I really can see her little personality start to come through. I see this life force in her and determination, and I hope she loves life as much as I do.”

While speaking to Elle in November 2025, Buckley shared what she loves most about being a parent.

"The best thing about being a mom is just when even when you're having a hard day, they give you these otherworldly little smiles and make your heart crack into a thousand pieces, and you think, ‘Oh, it's all going to be okay,’ ” she said.
